Hi folks, just joined this tribe.
Just want to add my experience with cortisone. An idiot Kaiser dermatologist gave me one for what he insisted was an exzema flair up even though I told him it wasn't. The injection caused about 4 months of spotting. As a side note,
it's a side effect that I've experienced with other drugs, just be aware ladies that it is a possibility.

I responded to Jocelyn's post about fragrance allergy, saying antihistamines no longer work for me and my next step was to be a cortisone injection, and wondered if she or others might find this useful.

Two days ago my hayfever was really bad ... continuous sneezing and nose blowing, and a dry throat. Yesterday I decided it must be a cold, it seemed too severe for an allergy. Today I had the cortisone injection, which is supposed to reduce allergies for about a year.

Within two hours my "cold" had improved. It is now 8 hours after the injection and I have no allergies, the cold symptoms are almost all gone, and I havent had any antihistamine for over 24 hours (and it's almost summer here in Australia, nice dry air for the allergens to play in).

I am not suggesting cortisone cures colds, rather, that the cold was in fact an allergy. If you are interested in this treatment, please research side effects first, for example: http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/PrintablePages/Monograph/0,7765,7203%7C,00.html

It is a very small injection and doesnt hurt at the time, but there is some aching for a short time after. I am happy so far ... and so soon!.. with the results, so I hope it can help others. I hope the effects last as long as they are supposed to.
